The more you smoke, the more likely you are to get tobacco stains on your fingers.  So the solution to preventing nicotine stains on your fingers is to stop smoking.  BTW, it is not the nicotine that is staining your skin, it is the cigarette tar stains that need to be removed.

The cigarette smoke (tars) gets into the layers of the skin.  Short of quitting smoking, one suggestion is to protect the hands with gloves -- rubber gloves or those food handler disposable gloves.  Yeah, I know that is a doofus suggestion, but so is smoking itself.  Yeah, I know we (including me) started smoking because it was (supposedly) cool.  Gloves would really detract from that so-called "coolness" of cigarette smoking, wouldn't it?  So, deal with it.  Or QUIT, like I did.

If you quit, in time the cigarette nicotine stains (actually cigarette tar stains) will disappear from your fingers as you wash your hands, as new skin replaces old (as it does all over your body).  In the meantime, you could try frequent washing with dish soap and water, and apply vinegar to reduce the smell.  Lemon juice has also been mentioned as a way to get rid of tobacco stains on the fingers.  And/or try mixing a little chlorine bleach in with a soap and water solution and brush it in with a nail brush, then wait a few minutes and scrub it off.  Someone mentioned using the sandpaper on the match book cover or match box and filing some of the tobacco tar stained skin off.

Note that many stains cannot be removed. Some stain removal chemicals, agents, or even commercial stain removal products can damage or discolor fabrics, making the result even worse.
